The Public Domain: Let’s Break it Down

The public domain provides us all with space to use.

Whether we’re walking, commuting, exercising, riding our bikes, relaxing, running, having lunch, working, skating, walking the dog, getting married, studying, kicking a ball with the kids, shopping, playing sport, reading, feeding the birds, waiting for a friend, enjoying a picnic, waiting for a bus, or just sitting down and watching the world go by, the public domain provides us with endless opportunities to interact with it.

It surrounds us at home and at work, and it is the physical medium that connects us as a society. It’s yours, and it’s mine, it belongs to the community, it helps to define the community. It’s ours to use, to be proud of, to protect, and to improve.
It’s here now, and if it’s managed properly, it’ll be even better for our grandchildren.

The public domain improves our quality of life and should be beautiful, inspiring, peaceful, exciting, functional and accessible.

Mos acknowledges all of this and takes very seriously its small role within the larger stewardship group, whose responsibility it is to ensure the public domain is managed appropriately as our needs as a community evolve from one year to the next, and from one generation to the next.

You’re a very important part of that stewardship group and we are here to help you deliver your unique and inspired contribution to it.

Public Space, Public Funds, Public Interest

Designing and delivering public spaces, or the elements within those public spaces is, by definition, a public concern. As such, we have an obligation to ensure we provide value, longevity and quality, while at the same time, ensuring we operate in a way that conforms to contemporary standards of quality and environmental management.

Mos is committed to ensuring we will continuously seek ways to minimise our impact on the environment by regularly reviewing the design, production, finishing, assembly and delivery methods we employ. We will pursue new materials and finishes as they become available, and respond to specific project requirements as needed.

Capability & Experience

Mos understands the complex nature of public domain projects and the intricate network of stakeholder groups that all share an interest in their design, development, delivery and management.
Their scrutiny challenges the design community (whether they be Landscape Architects, Architects, Lighting Designers, Industrial Designers or Public Artists) whose task it is to collectively satisfy the variety of needs defined by this multifaceted ‘client’.

Within this context, Mos has been established to facilitate the needs of those who are responsible for selecting the street furniture elements required within a project.

We provide a simple to use, yet powerful tool that will enable you to:

  • Create your own semi-customised solutions for your project
  • Save those designs, or combinations of designs by Project
  • Generate RFQs quickly and easily based on shortlisted selections
  • Communicate those shortlisted selections to your client
  • Download any necessary supporting documents to assist in the preparation of your specification.
  • Realise a completely unique solution should a custom design be required.

Mos has over 25 years of combined experience in designing and delivering world-class street furniture solutions. We believe in the power of collaboration, and the potential of partnerships. We look forward to providing you with what you need in order for you to successfully deliver your vision.
